About Bowen and Rachel

When the going gets tough, the tough make cookies-  Erma Bombeck

I am a Certified Bowen Practitioner.  Like many others, I wasn't familiar with Bowen Therapy until around 2013, when my cousin, BettyAnn, mentioned her therapist and all the seemingly wonderful things she helped her with that no other doctor or practitioner could. Soon after, my teenage daughter hurt her knee playing basketball, prompting me to give Bowen a try. Not only did she find healing and relief, I was so intrigued with the therapy I decided to attend a brief workshop on it. Looking for an alternative to traditional clinical treatments such as medication and surgery, I instantly fell in love with Bowen.  The gentle, profound healing capabilities were a perfect fit for me, my lifestyle and family.

I have always had a love of an active, healthy lifestyle that carried over into a fondness for cooking and enjoying food.  These passions inspired me to complete a BS in Nutrition.  I worked as a Clinical Dietitian at Lahey Clinic for three years, followed by a new venture as a small  business owner and Personal Chef.  Soon after my family began to grow, and I left my career to raise our kids, which means I have become really good at turning off unneeded lights, driving kids around, and building snowmen!  This also means I frequently manage the ache, pains and illnesses of every day life - from seasonal allergies, stress-related strains, common bumps and bruises in the yard and playground, to more serious sprains and pains from the athletic field.  My kids, neighbors and friends have grown to love how quickly they get better with Bowen, often inviting others to meet with me to try it out.

Bowen works like no other therapy. People often say "what is it like?" There really is no comparison. It is a gentle type of bodywork that focuses on stimulating the fascia or connective tissue surrounding everything in our bodies. These unique movements over very specific parts of the body shift the nervous system into a "relax and heal" mode instead of the "fight or flight" mode many of us are in. The body cannot effectively heal itself until it can rest. So many conditions respond well to Bowen like migraines, digestive problems, sports injuries (especially concussions), back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, knee pain, colds and so much more. Many people find relief in 3-5 sessions. Others with chronic conditions may need more regular sessions.  Children often respond even quicker.
